The transfer story of the summer than Liverpool fans don’t want to hear about: Barcelona are hot on the tail of Philippe Coutinho.
Replacing Coutinho is always going to be an extraordinarily tough task. He’s Liverpool’s little magician.
From 31 appearances, Coutinho netted 13 times and assisted seven goals. Bear in mind that an ankle issue in December left him on the physio’s table for a while and it took him a while to subsequently rediscover his best form, though. However, he did end the season with a run of seven goals in nine games.
What Jurgen Klopp loves about Coutinho, though, is that he’s a hard-worker. He’s not just the playmaker that sits in space waiting for the ball to come to his feet, he’ll hunt it down and works hard in defence. The Brazilian epitomises Klopp’s ideals.
The worst part about his potential exit is that the 25-year-old is still improving. We haven’t even seen the best of him. If he leaves, Klopp needs to find some combining creativity, potential and work ethic, just as his predecessor did.
However, money talks and Barcelona, should they sell Neymar, will have the funds to make Liverpool an offer they can’t refuse. In such a scenario, West Ham’s Manuel Lanzini has been sounded out as the ideal replacement for Coutinho.
